Supportive conversations during times of transition.

Transition Coaching

I am not taking on new coaching clients at this time. May you find helpful resources and people during your time of transition.

Supportive conversations to help you process the ‘in-between’ chapters in your life.

I offer supportive one-on-one conversations for people who are going through a life transition.

Your life transition might be:

  • from a secure job to starting a business.

  • from a familiar city to a new one.

  • from an established career to a completely new direction.

  • from a long period of study to looking for a job.

  • from health to illness, or illness to health.

  • from singleness to partnership, or partnership to singleness.

As the syntax indicates, transitions involve a from and a to. Leaving something behind and stepping into something new.

Transitions come in all shapes and sizes.

Your transition might be more subtle such as starting a creative project or taking your first steps towards a long-held dream. It may be an internal transition from sleep-walking to self-awareness, from avoiding your inner wounds to embarking on a healing journey, from living in your head to learning to live more from your heart.

You may have chosen this transition and want to navigate it in an intentional way. This transition may have happened to you in the form of a crisis that disrupted life as you know it. You may be surveying the rubble, trying to discern how to put the pieces back together in a new way.

Transitions are often dis-orienting, and that’s okay.

Transition times can be exciting, full of promise and potential. But in my experience they can also be disorienting, confusing and highly uncomfortable. This doesn’t make you a failure. Neither does it mean the transition is ‘wrong’.

This transition space often evokes a recognisable pattern of death and rebirth. It takes courage to live in the liminal space between chapters - when you have let something go but the new thing hasn’t become clear yet. There is often a temptation to rush to a premature resolution, to grasp at a new certainty.

Sometimes courages asks you to allow a deeper transformation to occur, and this might take time.

How might coaching help you?

Put simply, coaching is a supportive conversation. As a coach, I give you the space to do some soul searching and useful processing with another human being. I listen deeply, ask questions, sometimes observe what I’m seeing, help you decide what you want to get out of our conversation, or conversations.

Together we could explore:

  1. What are you letting go of?

  2. What is happening for you now?

  3. Where might you be going?

I listen with you for hunches and clues, the emerging stories, the tendrils of growth, the glimpses of grace, the dawning of awareness, the energy for change, the readiness for bravery.

Coaching can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t need to.

Coaching is a supportive, human to human conversation. Sure, I’m fully present to you and bring all of who I am to support your process, but it is your process.

  • You don’t have to impress me.

  • You don’t have to be clear exactly what you’re looking for.

  • You don’t have to be feeling amped or pumped about your transition.

  • You don’t have to psych yourself up to go ‘from surviving to thriving’. Thriving will come in its own time as you do the work of leaning into your transition with kindness and courage.

What should you expect?

You do need to be willing to be self-reflective, to bring some of your real self in to conversation and to take responsibility for your learning and growth.

And me? I commit to treating you like a grown-up, being open and curious about all of who you are, and to creating a safe container for you to be real in.

Let’s see what might come of that, shall we?

What sort of coach am I?
I am a certified, transformational coach. I believe in creating safe space for the soul to show up. I value contemplative action: connecting purposeful reflection with meaningful action for a more whole-hearted life. I resonate with the work of Parker Palmer and I believe there is an inner light, an inner teacher within each of us that we can learn to discern and align with.

My coaching is informed by my vocation as a spiritual director, meaning I naturally attend to the deeper flow of life - in myself and in others. I welcome the spiritual or faith dimension of your life to be present in our coaching conversations if that is important to you.

My Training
I am a Certified Transformational Coach (Coach Masters Academy, 2020). I am currently working towards ACC accreditation with the International Coaching Federation. I am also a professional spiritual director with five years experience and a full member of the Association of Christian Spiritual Directors.

Kathryn coached me during a time of career soul searching and business transition.

“Kathryn helped me to better understand my strengths, supported me through identity/business transitions and provided accountability for my goals. This has been transformational for me. Kathryn affirms me and also challenges me to grow and take action. I feel like I can really own my future direction now, and that is a major milestone for me personally and professionally.”
